Rethinking Assessment in the Era of Artificial Intelligence
As schools are responding to new artificial intelligence (AI) tools, many in the education sector are rethinking assessment. Some teachers are developing ways to use tools such as ChatGPT in their classes and courses, while some schools are banning the tools entirely. Given the ubiquity and continuous advancements of AI, how do we teach students the relevant skills and content needed to learn and thrive, now and into the future? What are the ethical considerations around use of AI tools in school, and how do we ensure equity? And, what specific approaches to assessment provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning of skills and content in an AI world?
